Hi Peg! I am watching the Weather Channel daily now and eagerly anticipating the arrival of the 'fall cooling front'. It's a Florida tradition: the boundary between the 'hot weather plantings' and the 'cool weather plantings'. One day it's summer; the next day it's autumn. It can literally happen just like that.
I was at the garden center this weekend and did manage to resist the lure of teasing blossoms. (It's too early.) I left only with the honeysuckle shears I came in for. But promises were made... Oh yes, promises were most definitely made and the dianthus, phlox and grinning pansies know I'll be seeing them again soon.

Grinning pansies? :) I love all the riotous colors they come in. For some reason, Northern gardeners tend to plant them during wet windy spring weather and they get all beat up.
I've planted some mums over the last few days: got some small ones at Home Depot for $1.25 (white and yellow-orange); plus some from the greenhouse in our neighborhood for $4 for a good-sized pot: I got rose pink, bronze, burgundy, orange and deep red. I also transplanted some from the old place, and mail ordered a couple from Bluestone Perennials (lavender and a soft red). They perennialize well if they have good drainage; the smaller ones do better. There are quite a few of them that came up nicely at Brushwood that I planted last year. I love all the many colors. I'd love to have a whole mum garden next year, maybe plant them over spring bulbs.
I'll try to post some ics this week!
